Campaigns Served:   France

War Service/Promotions:   Admitted to Devonport, Hospital, Devon, England 26 July 1916, discharged 31 July 1916. He proceeded overseas to France, 22 November 1916, with the 37th Battalion. Wounded in action 20 June 1918, France, and admitted to hospital in Abbeville, France, 24 June 1918. From there he was transferred to England on 27 June 1918, and admitted to King George Military Hospital, London, on 28 June 1918. On 20 July 1918 he was transferred to the 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, London, where he stayed until 10 August 1918, and was discharged to the No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, Dorset, England.

Fate:   Returned to Australia per D23, HMAT Runic, 23 September 1918, which had been commissioned from the SS Runic in 1915. Edward was discharged in Sydney, 27 December 1918. (They had to check out his injuries, probably for insurance and pension, though the reason is not in the service records). He married Laura May Donald (nee Simonds), 28 May 1930, 180 George Street, Fitzroy, Vic.

Place of Wounding:   Gunshot wounds, back, (severe and multiple). Also fractured spine, 3 lumbar vertebras, 20 June 1918, France.

Place of Death:   1 August 1964, Heidelberg, Vic.

Place of Burial:   Cremated and ashes scattered at Fawkner Crematorium and Memorial Park, Hadfield, Vic.
