Victor embarked the A 16 Port Melbourne at Adelaide on 23 October 1916 arriving at Devonport, England on 28 December and proceeded to France on 9 May 1917. He was killed in action at Villers- Bretonneux on 25 April and was buried 500 yards south- west of the town with a cross erected by his unit, the 50th Battalion. Victor’s personal effects comprising a wrist watch-guard, pair of gloves and handkerchief were sent to his mother Auguste on 24 December. She was granted a pension of 2 pounds per fortnight as of 16 July 1918. Auguste also received Victor’s Memorial Scroll, Memorial Plaque, Victory Medal and British War Medal between June 1921 and April 1923.
The following notice appeared in The Advertiser on Friday, April 25 1919, “In loving memory of our dear friend Victor, killed in action in France April 25 1918. Ever remembered.” Inserted by his friends Mr. and Mrs. H.A.Wallace.
