Hubert Roy was known as Bert Smith. His parents were Frances Mary Dunstall and James Smith and was the second son. He saw service at Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine and attained the rank of Sgt. He had 3 brothers who also enlisted in WW1. Bert remained a bachelor and during depression times was a fisherman at Goolwa. He enlisted again in WW2 as Herbert Roy Smith and saw service in the Pacific as a Warrant Officer 2 with the Army Medical Corps.
