Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

George was the ninth of ten children of George Frederick King (born 1846 in Islington, London) and Elizabeth Kingsford Baillie (born 1851 at Yandilla Station on the Darling Downs in QLD). George Snr immigrated with his parents when he was two years of age, arriving in Moreton Bay in January 1949. George Snr and Elizabeth married at Leyburn, QLD in 1869 and lived at Ellengowan Station on the Darling Downs, where George was Overseer. In 1877 the family moved to Grass Tree Creek at Yandilla on the Darling Downs, where George was a Grazier.

George was a Mounted Police Constable at Yandilla on the Darling Downs in QLD when he enlisted in the AIF in September 1914. George served with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli Peninsula - Private, Corporal, Lance Sergeant (Service No:414) and was Discharged in February 1918.

George returned to the Darling Downs and was a Police Officer in 1919 when he married Margaret Caroline Emily Cunningham (born 1888 at Cordalba in Wide Bay QLD). Margaret was a Dressmaker, and the couple lived at Yandilla - George was 'a member of the police force for many years, during which time he received the King's Medal for services rendered' (Maryborough Chronicle 1941 - Obituary).

George and Margaret moved to Howard in the Wide Bay area of QLD in the early 1930's where George was Manager of the Federal Theatre, and served as President of the Howard and Torbanea Sub Branch of the RSSAILA.

George died in 1941, and Margaret in 1977
