Son of Charles August Fuss and Rhoda Elizabeth Fuss nee Romball of Aberdeen, Burra, SA. Brother of Lawrence Robert Fuss, Muriel Beatrice Fuss, Hiliary Everard Fuss who returned to Australia on 4 December 1918 having serving with the 27th Battalion, Bessie Marguarita Fuss, Vernon Esbert Fuss, Edgar Fuss, Shirley Doris Fuss, Rhoda Vera Fuss, and Aubrey Osborne Fuss

At the time of enlistment he was residing at Stoker's Siding, Tweed River, NSW

Commenced return to Australia on 19 June 1919 aboard HT Miltiades. Failed to re-embark at Cape Town, South Africa later stowing away aboard HT Orita disembarking in Adelaide on 6 August 1919
