Eric Pooley

Eric Alvin Pooley youngest son of Philip Pooley and Mary Ann Pooley (nee Cane) both deceased.  Eric was born in Queanbeyan on 18 February, 1888.  He had three brothers Robert, Philip Sydney (Sid) and Frederick and one sister Ethel. 

His brother Sid enlisted on 25 January 1916 at Sydney.  His rank on enlistment was Driver with 3rd Divisional Train, 24 Company Army Service Corps.  Sid’s Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A34 Persic on 30 May 1916. 

Both Sid and Eric worked as Tram drivers in Sydney.  Their parents had owned 'Pooley's Hotel' in Queanbeyan.  His father had also run coaches with his Frederick, John, Arthur and Thomas from Goulburn to Queanbeyan, Cooma and Bombala and Goulburn, Braidwood and Moruya via Araluen.

Eric enlisted at Victoria Barracks, NSW on 23 October 1916.

Eric married Mary Eileen Martin in 1924 at Redfern, Sydney, NSW.  He died in 1964.
