13 Sep 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, During the attack on Mount St. Quentin on 1 September 1918, as stretcher bearer he rendered valuable and courageous service. Immediately following the capture of the village he repeatedly went through heavy enemy barrages and brought his wounded comrades to safety. His work through the whole operation was of high order, repeatedly going out under direct machine gun fire to collect cases. He continued working for the following two days working over most dangerous places until he collapsed owing to physical strain. London Gazette on 17 June 1919, page 7699, position 76.
