Spencer Edwin UPPILL was born in Riverton, South Australia on 29th June 1894

His parents were Edwin George UPPILL & Mary Ann WAIT

He married Dora JAMES on 9th February, 1929 in the Prospect North Methodist Church in South Australia - one known daughter, Joyce Lorraine b. 1932

He enlisted in Keswick on 12th July, 1915 and embarked from Adelaide on the HMAT Themistocles on 13th October, 1915 with the 27th Infantry Battalion, 5th reinforcements

He returned to Australia on 13th April, 1919 and was discharged on 27th May, 1919

His brother Robert William George UPPILL (SN 1752) 50th Infantry Battalion, also served during WW1 and returned to Australia on 13th February, 1917
