George Henry Stoddart enlisted as a private in the 39th Battalion, A Company, before being promoted to Sergeant.
He was awarded the Military Medal for "great gallantry and devotion to duty in action East of Ypres on 4th October 1917. As N.C.O in charge of carrying parties, he organised dumps in the forward area and was instrumental in keeping his company in supplies of ammunition and bombs. He also volunteered to get rations up to the front line over open country which was continuously shelled. He set a splendid example to his men and inspired them in a most difficult and dangerous task" - Commonwealth Gazette, June 27, 1918.
He returned home on May 27, 1919 and was discharged from Service on 04 Sep 1919
