Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Clement Harold Griffiths Pratt was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in May 1890. His family eventually relocated, settling at 35 Wakefield Street, Kent Town, South Australia, where he spent a significant part of his youth. Prior to enlisting in the military, Pratt worked as a train conductor. Clement Pratt was a single man. His religious faith was rooted in the Church of England. His mother, Mrs. Mary Pratt, served as his next of kin.

In June 1916, at the age of 26, Pratt enlisted in Adelaide, South Australia, joining the 2nd Depot Reinforcements before being assigned to the 10th Infantry Battalion.

Embarking on the HMAT Ballarat in Adelaide, Pratt set sail as a Private in the 10th Infantry Battalion. He played a crucial role in significant conflicts, including the Battle of Amiens and the German Spring Offensive. His commitment and bravery did not go unnoticed. Originally enlisting as a Private, Pratt’s leadership qualities stood out, leading to his promotion to Lance Corporal on 6th August 1917, during his deployment in France.
