Harry Clement Linley Gratton DEW was born on 17th February, 1885 in Kent Town, South Australia

His parents were Henry George DEW and Caroline MARTIN

Harry married Mary Rebecca BIEG on 2nd June 1906 at the residence of Mr. Leak in Goodwood SA - they had 3 children, Reginald Harry Walter, Pearl May & Phyllis Eva.

He had previously served with the 10th SAIR for 2 & a half years before  enlisting in Adelaide for WW1 on 30th August, 1915 and he embarked with the 10th Battalion, 14th reinforcements on 7th February, 1916 on the HMAT Miltiades.

Harry was Killed in Action on 7th May, 1917 and is buried in the Queant Road Cemetery in France - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & he was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal

Cemetery inscription reads:

"DUTY NOBLY DONE"
