My Grandfather

My Grandfather died 11 years before I was born.

I have found several discrepancies in the spellings of my Grand - dad's name across his Service Records and and marriage and deaths certificate and it also seems his age was hard to pinpoint. That's only one interesting fact found on Grand-dad.

His record states he was born near Litchfield, Staffordshire (England) and I believe was christened at the Cathedral there. However despite significant investigations by myself and a cousin we can find no authentication. We know that the family was originally from Ireland and so we now think that this was where Grand- dad was born, then probably settled in the UK before emigrating to Australia around 1883 to become sheep farmer's. I have never found a record of his family in the passenger lists paid or otherwise or burial records of his parents Alexander & Ellen. I did visit Australia for 4 months in 2009 and hoped to find some evidence of our great grand parents death's with no luck, However I did enjoy walking down Peel Street in Melbourne which is were Granddad was living at the time of his enlistment to the A.I.F.
