Thomas and Daisy highlight the extent of commitment made by so many similar families during the war. They had 6 children to bring up but made their sense of duty to their nation’s involvement in the Great War as a priority. Thomas joined the 10th Battalion and embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A 48 Seeang Bee on 10 February 1917. He went to France with his unit on 6 August. Thomas continued to serve in France for the duration of the war. He returned to Australia on the Nestor on 20 May 1919 and was discharged on 7 August.
