Thomas Furlong McCORMACK was born in Heathcote in 1890.

His family moved to East StKilda and Thomas studied engineering being articled to H L Tisdall Engineering of East Geelong.

Thomas joined the AIF on 6/7/1915 in Melbourne. He gave his occupation as Civil Engineer. He was 25yo, 5ft 5in tall and weighed 8st 9lbs. He stated that he was a member of the Malvern Rifle Club. His next of kin was his mother Emily McCormack of 20 Lock Street East StKilda. His father had died prior to this time.

Because of his qualifications he was appointed Sergeant.

He left Melbourne on 24/11/1915 aboard the HMAT Ceramic and travelled to Egypt then on to France as part of the 5th Field Company Engineers.

While with this unit he was awarded the Military Medal for good works.

On 20/10/1916 he was appointed 2nd Lieut, and on 29/4/1917 Lieut.

He was wounded in action on 6/5/1917 with wounds to his right eye and left humerus.

He was transferred to the UK and admitted to the 3rd General London Hospital.

Because of his wounds he was returned to Australia, leaving the UK on 10/9/1917.

He recuperated at his Mothers home at 88 Grey Street St.Kilda.

In the 1920's he moved to the Sunbury, Victoria area to live. He became President of the Sunbury RSL in 1928.

Thomas died on 24/4/1971 and is buried at the Bulla Cemetery.
