Served in The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
72 years ago today, on the 28th July 1948, Private Henry (Harry) George Rees, 1st Battalion, blacksmith from Creek Reserve Road, Boolaroo, New South Wales and Smith Street, Mayfield East, N.S.W., father of two, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 51. ANGLICAN 3-178. 21.
No funeral notice located.

Born at Wallsend, New South Wales on the 11th October 1896 to Jenkin and Elizabeth Rees; husband of Ruby Rees nee Scollay (married 1916, died 1966) of "Tamworth", Victoria Street and Raglan Street, Long Bay, New South Wales and Maroubra Bay, N.S.W., Harry enlisted January 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Discharged for refusing to be inoculated, he reenlisted May 1916 with the 5th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery at Broadmeadow, N.S.W.
Admitted to hospital 9.8.1917 (influenza), 14.10.1917 (hernia), 22.6.1918 (tonsillitis), Harry returned home July 1920.

Harry’s name has been inscribed on the Boolaroo District Roll of Honour and the Boolaroo Methodist Church Roll of Honour (unveiled on the 25th May 1919, whereabouts unknown - https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/139439753
Mr Rees had been resting in an unmarked grave, now long forgotten, so May 2016 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
