DSO and Bar

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. he led his battalion successfully, and supervised, under constant machine gun and rifle fire, the consolidation of the captured ground. Next day he led a patrol into "No Man's Land" and made a reconnaissance, with the result that the line was pushed forward another 200 yards. Throughout the operation he did fine work.'
