Pontifical Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Rev. Father Frederick Charles O'Connor, parish priest of Pyramid Hill, who died on Thursday, April 12, was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Pyramid Hill, on Friday, April 13, by Most Rev. T. V.Cahill, Bishop of Cairns. The assistant priest was Very Rev. father F. X. Thomas, Bendigo; deacons at the throne, Rev. Fathers M. Downey, P.P., Mooroopna, and A. Owens, Bendigo; deacon of the Mass Rev. J. Ryan,P.P., Beechworth; sub-deacon, Rev. Father T. Murphy, P.P.,Shepparton. The panegyric was preached by his Lordship Bishop Stewart. After Mass the funeral took place Pyramid Hill Cemetery, where prayers, at the wave were recited by Bishop Cahill.

A large gathering of towns people and visitors from surrounding parishes were present. The late Father O'Connor was ordained on June 22, 1913, at All Hallows College, Dublin, and arrived in Bendigo in October of the same year. He was appointed to St. Kilian's, and in February,1920, went to Beechworth. He went to Yarrawonga parish in July, 1921, Heathcote, February,1924, Elmore, February, 1927,and Wangaratta, June 1929. In 1932 Father O'Connor was appointed parish priest of Eaglehawk, where he remained until 1936, when he went to Kerang, and was appointed parish priest of Pyramid Hill in 1939. During the 1914-18 war the late Father O Connor was appointed a military chaplain and saw service on the battle front. He was a popular figure and took an active interest in various civic associations in all districts to which he was attached.
