Biography contributed by Trinity College

Henry was born on the 27th of November, 1897 to an unknown mother, and his father, Thomas Everett.

Up until his enlistment on the 24th of May 1916, he lived in Richmond, Yarra, in Victoria, presumably with his parents. It is not known where he attended school, but after leaving school, he worked as a manual labourer around Richmond.

Upon enlistment, Murphy was placed into the ANZAC 2nd Cyclists Battalion reinforcement #2. He and his unit was then sent to England for training. During his training, Murphy fell ill with Bronchitis multiple times, and was eventually deemed too unwell to serve and was sent back to Australia.

Murphy later attempted to get a pension for his military service, but this was denied as his bronchitis was not deemed an injury sustained in combat, and was thus deemed unfit for military compensation.
