Charles Mitchell 337 Private 1 st Battalion AIF
Charles Mitchell was born on 14 May 1894 at his family home on Parramatta Road, Burwood. This house was on the corner of Lucas Road and Parramatta Road, Burwood. He was the eighth of nine children. His three eldest brothers, Henry, Albert and Edward, were born in London. The family arrived in Sydney in 1882.
Charles's father was Malcolm James Mitchell. He was born in Droitwich, Worcestershire, England. Malcolm worked as an Engineer. Charles's mother was Jane Lammas, who was born in London. She was from a family who worked as Gunsmiths.
Charles's birth certificate records his full name as Charles Ernest Vickers Mitchell. Vickers being the family name of his paternal grandmother.
Charles occupation on his Attestation Paper was listed as Laborer. After returning from the war, Charles moved to Perth. It appears he married Maud Mary Bennett in 1929. We believe they had two sons, Collin and Graham. At one point, we believe Charles was living at 52 Collick Street, Hilton Park, a suburb of Perth.
Charles's older sister Florence Mitchell was my grandmother. We don't know when Charles died.
