Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Vincent Patrick DOYLE (known as Patrick), (Service Number 4160) was born on 5 September 1896 at Picton, NSW. His parents were Robert and Elizabeth A. Doyle. He went to Brooklyn Public School and to Christian Brothers School, Balmain.
He is listed on the NSWGR&T Honour Roll, under the name of Patrick Doyle, as having been in the Railways Permanent Way Branch, and as having been in the 54th Infantry Battalion. No record could be found which confirms when he joined the NSWGR&T, but there are two individuals named Patrick Doyle in the Railways Permanent Way Branch in the list of staff as at 31 December 1914.

Patrick joined the AIF on 25 August 1915 with the rank of Private (Service No. 4160) and was initially posted to the 13th Reinforcements to the 2nd Infantry Battalion. He nominated his father, living at Balmain, as his next of kin.

He embarked for Egypt aboard HMAT A60 ‘Aeneas’ at Sydney on 20 December 1915. After arriving in Egypt, in early 1916 he was transferred to the 54th Infantry Battalion.

Vincent Patrick DOYLE (known as Patrick) (Service Number 4160) was born on 5th September 1896 at Picton, NSW. His parents were Robert and Elizabeth A. Doyle. He went to Brooklyn Public School and to Christian Brothers School, Balmain.

He was employed in the Railways Permanent Way Branch.

Patrick joined the AIF on 25th August 1915 with the rank of Private (Service No. 4160). He was initially posted to the 13th Reinforcements to the 2nd Infantry Battalion. He nominated his father, who was living at Balmain, as his next of kin.

He embarked for Egypt aboard HMAT A60 ‘Aeneas’ at Sydney on 20th December 1915. After arriving in Egypt, in early 1916 he was transferred to the 54th Infantry Battalion. He left Alexandria for France on 19th June 1916. On 19th or 20th July 1916 he was killed in action at Fleurbaix.

Patrick’s grave is in the Anzac Cemetery, Sailly-sur-la-Lys, Nord Pas de Calais, France. The Australian War Memorial gives his place of association as Balmain, NSW.
