Vincent O’Meara, born in 1898 in Kent Town, South Australia. He worked as a dental mechanic/assistant before he joined the military. He was 18 on 10th of April when he enlisted as a Private into the Australian military to fight in the Great War. Vincent was unmarried and listed his next of kin as his father Daniel O’Meara. With his unit he embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board the HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 18 May 1916.
Before leaving, O’Meara was placed into the 3rd Divisional Cyclist Company unit and embarked with his company for Egypt. When he eventually was sent to the Western Front on the 7th of September, he was taken on strength of the 12th Battalion. It is unclear if Vincent’s Battalion assisted in any offensives or battles, but they were situated in Ypres, Flanders. Less than two months after joining the 12th Battalion he was transferred to the 51st Battalion on the 31st of October 1916
The 51st Battalion participated in the advance following the Germans to the Hindenburg Line. On the 2nd of April it attacked at Noreuil, a village which had been fortified to delay the Australian advance. Later in the year, the focus of the AIF's operations moved to the Ypres sector in Belgium. It was on this day that Vincent Brosnan was killed in action. He was buried in H.A.C. Cemetery (Special Memorial A.9), Ecoust-St. Mein, France.
