"THE LATE PRIVATE J. H. MURPHY.
Mrs F. Thompson, of Morphett-street Adelaide, has received word that her younger brother was killed on November 17 last. Private Murphy enlisted on March 16, 1915, and proceeded to Egypt on April 30, 1915. After two months training there he left for Gallipoli, and later went to France, where he was wounded on July 4, 1916. He returned to duty in November last. He was 27 years of age, and his death is mourned by a large circle of relations and friends. His only brother has retuned to duty after being wounded. His father recently returned to Australia after serving 12 months in Egypt." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 30 Dec 1916 (nla.gov.au)
