Mr Francis Joshua Bennell, 65, who died yesterday at 311 Barkly st, St Kilda, was a well known dentist in Melbourne.
He had been in business in Collins st for more than 20 years. As a young man he began in business in Geelong as a chemist and dentist and was later elected to Geelong West council. He was Mayor twice.
On his return from the last war Mr Bennell became a partner in Ambler's dentistry, Collins st. He was a member of several Masonic Lodges and the Royal St Kilda Yacht Club. Mr Bennell was owner-skipper of the auxiliary yacht Oimara, and in it took part in several
ocean yacht races. He was holder of the record run for a yacht across Bass Strait and competed twice in contests from New
Zealand to Australia. Mr Bennell is survived by a widow and a son Mr F S Bennell. The funeral will leave his resi dence to-day at 2 30 pm for Springvale Crematorium. Apps and Sons Pty Ltd have charge of the arrangements.
