Son of William Henry Vowles and Catherine Mary Vowles nee Slade of Kirkellen Street, North Rockhampton, QLD.
Brother of Lester Norman Vowles who returned to Australia on 10 August 1919 having served with the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion.
Returned to Australia on 21 December 1918 after troopship HT Wyreema was recalled.
