Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of John A. Towns, Rydalmere

Mr. John A. Towns, late of Rydalmere, has been officially advised that his son, David, was killed in action on 20th September, after completing two years' active service. He enlisted 25th August, 1915, and sailed 2nd November. He was attached to the 17th Battalion, and was wounded on the 4th of August, 1916. He received ten days' furlough and visited his uncle in Scotland, where he met his only brother, William (H.M.S. Defiance), whom he had not seen for seven years. His brother finished five years' apprenticeship in a bank in Scotland, and enlisted 12 months after the war broke out. The late Private David Towns was 22 years of age and was very popular in Parramatta.
