Lewis Andrew Johnston was born in Kimberley, South Africa in 1892 and was working as a Clerk in Sunbury, Victoria when he enlisted on 27/11/1914.
He left Australia aboard HMAT Clan Macgillvray on 2/2/1915 as part of the 6th Battalion.
He served on Gallipoli and was wounded on 10/8/1915.
After recovering he rejoined his Battalion in France and was killed in action on 12/11/1916 at Guedecourt. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Brettoneux Memorial.
