Son of John Bailey Urquhart and Elizabeth Urquhart nee Layton of South Melbourne, Victoria.

Husband of Sylvia Clifton Urquhart nee of Separation Street, Alphington, Victoria. John and Sylvia married during 1912c in Victoria.

15 February 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 22nd Battalion and with the rank of Private.

27 July 1916 - wounded in action. On 29 July 1916 embarked HS St. Denis with a severe wound to the knee. 

6 March 1916 - promoted to Lance Corporal

27 March 1918 - wounded in action for the second time. Embarked HS Stad Antwerpen on 4 Aapril 1918 with wounds to the shoulder and back.

2 March 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Derbyshire disembarking on 22 April 1919

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

21 June 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District
