Private Alick Browning (Service No:7266) enlisted in the AIF on 10 June 1917 - he had previously served one year with the CMF 88th Infantry Battalion. Private Browning embarked with 28th Infantry Battalion from Fremantle on 13 March 1918 on board SS Ormonde. He served in France and returned to Australia on 12 July 1919 on board the City of Exeter before Discharge on 1 November 1919.

Born in 1899 in Northam WA, Alick was the fourth of seven children of Charles (Chas) Browning (b1865 in Daylesford, Victoria) and Susan Gemmill (b1871 in Heathcote, Victoria). Chas and Susan mrried in Albury NSW in 1888 and by 1897 had moved to Northam WA where they raised their family and Chas was a Railway Ganger/Labourer with WAGR.

Alick was working as a Grocer's Assistant when he enlisted in 1917 and returrned to Northam following his Discharge. In 1920 he married Ada Ellen Swann (b1902 in Perth WA). Alick joined the WAGR in July 1920, and worked as a Repairer in Northam, Spencer's Creek, Dandelup, Fremantle, Cunderdin, Perth and Woolgangie before retiring in February 1941. Alick and Ada settled in Perth WA where Alick died in 1982.
