25 Jul 1917: Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and determination in carrying a despatch to the front line through the most intense enemy bombardment. Later, he rendered valuable service by acting as a guide to a company which was being relieved.'
