He enlisted in Melbourne on 18th August, 1914 and embarked with the 5th Infantry Battalion from Melbourne on 21st October, 1914 on the ship Orvieto

Robert was Killed in Action in France on 25th July, 1916 in the battle for Pozieres - no known grave
