He was wounded in action 10 June 1917, GSW left hand, and wounded a second occasion (gassed) on the 24 April 1918. Admitted to the Shorncliffe Military Hospital 10 May 1918 suffering from bronchitis, suspected tuberculosis from the effects of gas.

Born in 1898, he was only 17 when he enlisted and 21 when he died, the father states on ROH circulars for other two sons that he died 5 months after returning to Australia.

His 2 brothers, 2018 Pte. James Dunn Bennett 6th Battalion AIF was killed in action 25th April 1915, age 21 and 568 Pte. Herbert George Bennett, 28th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Pozieres 29th July 1916, age 39.
