Son of James and Charlotte LYON
FARRIER-SERGT. W. J. LYON.
Though not 21 years of age Sergt. Lyon. was an original Anzac, having joined the original A.I.F. contingent with the 3rd Field Engineers as farrier driver. He went through the Landing and afterwards was in Egypt, spending Xmas, 1915, on the Canal. Early in 1916 he was promoted Sergt.-Farrier with the 4th Engineers, reaching France early in June, 1916. Here, after a furlough to visit his father's people in Liverpool, he fell in with his elder brother, Sapper T. Lyon, and the brothers were together until Sergt. Lyon fell sick of meningitis from which he never recovered. Sapper T. Lyon was wounded early in March and is still in hospital progressing favorably. In his civilian life Sergt. Lyon was a blacksmith and was working at Sunbury when he enlisted. His parents live at 19 Bay View road, Yarraville.
