The death occurred in hospital on Saturday of Mr. Harold William Elcoate, of Digger Street, Cairns, aged 54. He was born in Atherton and had lived in the North all his life, save for service with the 25th Battalion in the first world war. He was a railway clerk in Cairns until ill-health compelled his retirement some years ago. He leaves a widow, three daughters - Mrs. J Brennan and Misses E and J Elcoate, Cairns, and five sons, Messrs, Norman, Max and Keith, Cairns; Jack, Brisbane; and Phillip, San Francisco. The funeral moved from St. John's Church of England yesterday afternoon, being largely attended. Members of the R.S.L. and Railway Department were present. The casket was draped with the Union Jack, and Mr. Roy Daniels sounded 'The Last Post'. Rev H Copp Officiated.
