Private William John Richardson (Service No:192) enlisted in the AIF in Sydney, NSW on 29 December 1916 with 1st Railway Section. Private Richardson was attached to 6th Australian Broad Gauge Operating Coy on 7 February 1917 when his Unit embarked from Sydney for Devonport on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire. Private Richardson served in France and Belgium, and embarked from Devonport for Sydney on 1 July 1919 on board HT Karmala. Private Richardson was attached to 6th Australian Broad Gauge Operating Coy at Discharge on 25 September 1919.

Bill was born in Aberfeldy, Victoria in 1896, third of ten children of Thomas Richardson (b1861 in Rushworth, Victoria) and Catherine Carldina Marcapolo (b1871 in Jordan, Victoria). Thomas was a Blacksmith in 1891 when he and Catherine married in Aberfeldy, where they settled and raised their family and Thomas was a Blacksmith. Catherine died in 1914 and Thomas moved to Morwell where he worked as a Blacksmith and Labourer.

Bill was working in Sydney as an Assistant Fireman with NSW Government Railways when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916. Following his Discharge, he returned to Sydney and work with NSW Railways. In 1922 in Sydney he married Dorothy (Dot) Lydia Lorraine Watson (b1897 in Cootamundra, NSW). Bill and Dot lived in Lithgow and Sydney, where they raised their family and Bill worked with NSW Railways as a Fireman and Locomotive Driver. Following Dot's death in 1951, Bill and second wife Margaret (Peg) lived in Cronulla, NSW. Bill died in 1987 and Peg in 1994.
