Private Herbert Chester Canham was born at Kogarah, Sydney, NSW around 1890. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 12th October, 1916 & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 10th January, 1917. He was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 24th January, 1917 with pneumonia – seriously ill. Private Canham died at 1.30 am on 28th January, 1917. 

On the 31st of January, 1917 Pte Canham was buried with two other Australians at Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, Ptes Adams & Canham
