George was an engineer living at Ivernice Lodge Timboon, when he enlisted. He returned to Australia, embarking on the 24 August 1918

Biography

Although George Carlos was born in Canada, his family were from Lancashire, England  - his father was a Master Mariner and was probably stationed in Canada at the time of his birth.

Having immigrated to Australia with his wife and five of his seven children in 1912, George enlisted in the AIF on August 22nd 1914 and served in the Middle East and France before returning to Australia in 1918. His service number was 362.

One of his sons, George Carleton Poulos Carlos, served in WW2 firstly in the Army and then the RAAF, and another applied for enlistment but was not called up.

A daughter, Irene (Reenie) married Charles Alfred Evenden, who was an emminent journalist and cartoonist, working out of London and Johannesburg.
