Albert was born on 25.06.1887 to Joseph William (1856-1911) and Selina WADE nee BAIRSTOW (1865-1936) He was one of 9 children having 5 brothers and 3 sisters;

Ivy, Albert, Sydney, Carol, Gladys, Douglas, Eric (KIA WW1 The Somme. Villers-Bretonneux Memorial) and Frederick

Albert did not marry or have children.

Albert died at home on 18.01.1935 and his death was the subject of a coroner’s finding. His death was deemed to be natural causes.

He was buried at Cheltenham cemetery. His mother Selina was buried in the same grave on 27.04.1936.

Albert has laid in an unmarked grave for 89 years, but as of today (12.06.2024) he now has a fitting memorial thanks to the Headstone Project of South Australia.

Military

Albert joined the AIF at Adelaide on 19 January,1916 and was allocated service number 5443.

He was posted to the 10th Infantry Battalion.

He had 3 of his brothers also join the AIF to serve in WW1, Eric was killed in action.
Pte WADE served on the Western Front.

He was wounded in action on two occasions. On 21September,1917, he sustained a gunshot wound to his head and hand and was wounded again on 23 August,1918 but remained on duty.

He was also appointed as a driver.

He returned to Australia and was discharged on 27 January,1919.
Private WADE was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
