Rupert Arthur James Young was born in Hobart, Tasmania before moving to Geranium, South Australia working on a farm. Geranium is 165.96 km away from Adelaide’s CBD. Rupert’s next of kin is his mother, Mrs Rosemond Young who lived in Geranium with him.
Rupert Arthur James enlisted in the war into the 3rd Pioneer Battalion on February 16th, 1916 before leaving Australia on June 6th 1916.
On the 12th of June 1916, he was in hospital for 32 days. Then on the 20th of June 1917 he was wounded in battle on the field, due to gas, and hospitalised. Then again on the 27th of May 1918, Rupert's arm was injured in battle in France, and he was admitted to hospital.
Rupert received two medals after the war, the first a British War Medal and the second a Victory Medal.
He returned to Australia on July 2nd 1918.
