Alf was the seventh of thirteen children of George Albert Grover (b1855 in Middle Swan, WA) and Margaret Watkins (b1857 in York, WA). George (A Railways Fettler) and Margaret married in 1877 in Beverley, WA where they settled and raised their family.
Alf was a Farm Hand in Beverley WA when he enlisted in the AIF in October 1916 - he had served twelve months with 25th Light Horse Regiment. Alf served as a Private (Service No:2829) with 44th Infantry Battalion in France and was hospitalised with Mumps and Influenza. In June 1919 he married Minnie Townsend (b1899 in Wiltshire, England) in Warminster, Wiltshire - Minnie was working as a Domestic Servant. Alf and Minnie arrived together in Fremantle WA in 1919 on board the Mahana, and Alf was Discharged in December 1919.
Alf and Minnie settled in Beverley WA, where Alf was a Road Boards Employee when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942. He served as a Private (Service No:W56469) and was attached to 5 Labour Coy when he was Discharged in 1944. Alf died in 1960 and Minnie in 1971.
