Died on this date – 28th January…… Private Ernest Bazen Beddow was born at Wilson’s Downfall, New South Wales in 1896.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 3rd October, 1916 as a 19 year old, single, Labourer from Wilson’s Downfall, via Tenterfield, NSW.
Private Ernest Bazen Beddow, Service number 2545, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 25th October, 1916 with the 9th Infantry Brigade, 35th Infantry Battalion, 5th Reinforcements & disembarked at Devonport, England on 28th December, 1916.
He was marched in to 9th Training Battalion from Australia on 29th December, 1916.
On 4th January, 1917 Private Beddow was Absent without Leave from midnight until 8pm on 5th January, 1917. He was awarded 5 days Field Punishment No. 2 & forfeited a total of 1 days’ pay.
He was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England on 18th January, 1917 with P.U.O. (Pyrexia (fever) of unknown origin). Private Beddow was reported as seriously ill with Broncho Pneumonia on 19th January, 1917.
Private Ernest Bazen Beddow died at 5.50 am on 28th January, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England from Broncho Pneumonia.
He was buried by relatives (R. E. Hughes, 12 Lester St, Bilston, Staffs) on 3rd February, 1917 in Bilston Cemetery, Bilston, Wolverhampton, England – Plot number 949 E.1. (Private Grave) and has a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone.

Biography
"...2545 Private Ernest Bazen Beddow, 35th Battalion. A labourer from Willsons Downfall, NSW, he embarked with the 35th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 25 October 1916 aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11). Pte Beddow died on 28 January 1917 of broncho-pneumonia, which he contracted during training at Salisbury Plains.
