Son of Thomas WALKER and Eliza nee PORTER
NOK Brother of John William WALKER, Strathkellar, Vic.
Mr. John Walker, of Strathkellar, has been informed by Base Records that his brother, Private Samuel Walker, has been severely wounded, and is at present in hospital at Fulham. Private Walker's right foot had to be amputated, and he also sustained mutiple gun shot wounds.
Private Samuel Walker arrived at Strathkellar on Monday evening, Private Walker, who is the youngest son of Mr. Thos. Walker, sen., of Penshurst lost his right leg at the battle of the Somme last March. He and seven others were in an advance post, when a party of Germans came on them unawares in the fog. A hand to hand fight ensued, and a bomb landed beside Private Walker and blew his right foot off. Five of the others were also wounded. The remaining two received medals, one of whom is Private W. Warburton, of North Hamilton.
