Son of Frederick William Vear and Gertrude Vear nee Hurrey of Trafalgar Road, Camberwell, Victoria. Brother of Kenneth William Vear who was killed in action on 3 October 1917 while serving with the 37th Battalion. Kenneth is buried in the Whitehouse Cemetery, Ypres. Plot 111, Row L, Grave 7.

Between 1907 and 1912 Frederick was apprenticed to J. Jones, builders of South Melbourne

Husband of Ada Evelyn Vear nee Quittenton of Trafalgar Road, Camberwell, Victoria. Frederick and Ada married during 1914c in Victoria

Commenced return to Australia 28 November 1919 aboard SS Celtic via America where he proposed to study reinforced concrete for constructional purposes
