Meritorious Service Medal citation:
'This Warrant Officer has at all times shown great persistence and capacity in getting ammunition and rations to the forward troops and never failed to pay daily visits to Battalion Headquarters or forward Companies in the line, for the purpose of ascertaining the situation and requirements of the troops, frequently taking charge of parties in exceptionally difficult and hazardous circumstances, to ensure that supplies would reach their proper destination. These journeys usually during active operations. His work at all times has been marked by energy, courage and resource. He came from Western Australia with the original Battalion as C.Q.M.S. and was promoted to R.Q.M.S. in December, 1916. With the exception of a short period, when he was in hospital as a result of wounds received in action, he has been with the Battalion during the whole of its operations in France.'
