William Henry Ashcroft worked for the Argentine Meat Co. as a butcher as a young lad and on 29 July 1913, he left for a new life in Australia aboard the Port Lincoln for destined for Melbourne. He was working as a farmhand for Charles L King at Ouyen when war broke out.
