Nicholas Archibald Vivian was born on the 8th of June, 1894 at Broken Hill in New South Wales.  He had brown eyes and dark hair. His hometown was Renmark Paringa in South Australia and before enlisting for war he was a tinsmith. He enlisted as a Private. His next of kin was his Mother, Mrs Kate Vivian who lived in New South Wales.  On the 7th of September 1914 at 20 years old, Nicholas enlisted to fight for Australia in World War 1. His unit left Adelaide on the 20th of October 1914, a mere month and a half after he enlisted. The unit departed on Transport A11 Ascanius. His unit was the 10th Infantry Battalion and he fought in the First World War.  

During the war, Vivian fought in and survived Gallipoli and Pozières. In Gallipoli and Pozières. Vivian fought as a Private and then was promoted to Lance Corporal on 2nd of April 1916, then to Corporal on 2nd of May 1916 and finally to Sergeant on the 23rd of July 1916.  On the 25th of April 1915, Private Vivian’s Battalion was involved in AIF WW1 at Gallipoli. He fought and survived Gallipoli although spent some time in hospital with dysentry. He was admitted to many hospitals and then proceeded to re-join his unit and then was evacuated again because of "nerves on the 2nd of December 1916. On the 5th of January 1917, he was discharged to Wareham from England, and then on the 3rd of March he changed to the 70th Battalion. On the 1st of October 1917, Vivian was deemed in suitable condition although he complained of memory loss. In December 1917 Nicholas married Florence E Vivian overseas.

After the war, Nicholas returned home to Adelaide and found a home in Yilki, Encounter Bay in South Australia. At the age of 74 years old, Nicholas Archibald Vivian passed away of natural causes on the 14th of August 1968. He was buried in the Centennial Park cemetery in South Australia.
