Biography from "War Service of Old Melburinans 1914- 1918" -

Eric Artlett Dyson, who died of wounds sustained in action in France on 26th July 1916, was the son of Mr. W.F. Dyson of 'The Nest', South Yarra.  He was born in 1896 and entered the school in 1911.  He left in 1913.  On leaving he went into an office, and eventually enlisted and went into camp in July 1915 and left for Egypt in March 1916 as a member of the 13 Field Amublance.  After further training at Tel-el-Kebir they were sent on to France in June, and while he was carrying in the wounded at Pozieres he was struck by shrapnel and died very shortly afterwards.  Before leaving for the front Eric wrote a letter requesting his father in the event of his death to give the whole of his accumulated military pay, which had been paid into the bank,  to the Red Cross Society, to be used for the benefit of returned wounded soldiers.  He was buried at Puchvillers.
