Sapper William Paxton, 11th Australian Field Company Engineers (Reg No-18970), coachbuilder from 16 Hewison Street, Tighes Hill, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 79. BAPTIST-L NE. 4.

Born at Tighes Hill, New South Wales on the 11th July 1895 to William and Eleanor Paxton; husband of Beatrice E M Paxton nee Hardy (married 1915, Newcastle, N.S.W., died?) of 1 Hogue Street, Smedmore, N.S.W.; also Annie Paxton nee Sayers (married 1924, Wickham, N.S.W., died 1966), William enlisted May 1917 with the Field Company Engineers - January to October 1917 Reinforcements at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 3.12.1917 (mumps).
William returned safely home October 1919, being discharged on the 23th November 1919.

Mr Paxton’s name has been inscribed on the Newcastle 39th Fortress Company, Australian Engineers' Roll of Honour (photo courtesy of Ed Tonks O.A.M. – unveiled on the 15th October 1921, 78 names inscribed, 8 Fallen), Tighes Hill Methodist Church Roll of Honour and the Tighes Hill Public School Honor Roll.

I have placed poppies at William’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King and Country.
