Lieutenant Arthur William Skewes.

Arthur William Skewes. Lieutenant, 41st Battalion was born in Charters Towers in 1891 and educated at Queenton School, Charters Towers. The son of Margaret and the late John Skewes, of Merthyr Road, New Farm, Brisbane. In 1914 he was called up by the Military Authorities to proceed with the other rifle men to Thursday Island on the 8th of August, returning the same year in November. He then proceeded to Brisbane and was appointed rifle instructor at Enoggera Camp. On 16th October, 1915. He enlisted in Brisbane, and left on May 22nd, 1916, by train to Sydney, thence to England. Left in November same year for France and went into the line. Was wounded in August, 1917. Served with the 41st Battn. as Lieut, of the company, having gained his second star on the field. Was on the eve of commission as Captain when he was killed on the 4th October at Passchendaele Ridge.
