Victor Herbert Bergstrom was born in 1896 and grew up in Fullarton Estate, South Australia. Victor was 19 and 8 months when he joined the war. Victor enlisted for the war as a private on the 11th of February 1916, as a part of the 32nd Battalion. He embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 11 April 1916. Victor lived with his mother, Mrs Matilda Bergstrom. Before joining the war, his occupation was a coppersmith. He was a 12-month cadet but was then rejected because of his height, given he was a 5,4 male weighing at 139lbs. Victor was diagnosed with flat feet early on in his life, this was a disadvantage for him as it caused him much pain, walking, running and marching.
During the war Victor was admitted to the hospital on many different occasions, mostly because of sickness and flat feet, as a result Victor was discharged back to Australia on the 22nd of July 1917. Victor then died at age of 74 on the 25th of April 1972.
