D'Arcey Richard Nottingham Shaw was born in Dalby, Queensland on the 25th of November 1897. Shaw's parents were Mr. and Ms. Thomas Shaw. Before the war, Shaw was a labourer. Shaw was eighteen years old when he enlisted.

Shaw embarked from Australia to Egypt on the 5th of May, 1916, on the HT Commonwealth. When Shaw got to Egypt he was admitted to No. 2 Auxillary Hospital in Eygpt for a case of the mumps. He was discharged on the 18 May but then readmitted on the 22nd May to the No. 4 Auxillary Hospital, again with mumps. When he was discharged, Shaw was sent from Egypt to France to join the fighting. He arrived in France on the 14 June. At this point, he was taken on strength by the 15th Battallion.

Shaw was wounded in action on the 8th August, 1916 and sent to England to recover. After recovering, Shaw he was sent to Northern France to rejoin the 15th Battallion on the 25th January, 1917. On the 1st February, 1917, Shaw was declared missing in action. On the 3rd March, 1917, S.H. Crawford, Lieutenant, Officer in Charge of Records amended Shaw's Service Record to declare him killed in action. Shaw was 19 years old when he died.

Biography

Pvt. Darcy Richard Nottingham Shaw 4905, and his two brothers 4907 Lce.-Cpl. Frank Albert Percy Shaw (/explore/people/266079) and 2867A Pvt. George Ronald Shaw (/explore/people/297679) enlisted for active service. Each were killed in action in either France or Belgium. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs Thomas Shaw of Jondowae, Qld.
